It’s amazing that through people we have met over the years, via business, school, & friends we are able to meet people of all cultures, careers, & places. Weynab & Colin are some of those people we were lucky enough to photograph based on a referral from a former classmate Ben had at Texas state 7 years ago (who also happened to be living in San Francisco). Weynab & Colin had their ceremony at the Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church and the reception at the Bridge’s Golf Club in San Ramon. After photographing portraits on the beautiful grounds, exploring via golf cart, they had an action packed reception with tearful speeches, packed dancefloor, & spiced with a few Ethiopian traditions.

We are so fortunate to know so many people all around the world. Carla & Mike are now included among those people. Both from England, they decided to have a destination wedding in Sorrento, Italy for the same reasons we had a destination wedding. For them, Sorrento is just as close as Costa Rica is to us. We met up with them for the first time at the rehearsal dinner two nights before the wedding and began the celebration with their friends & family in a beautiful Italian garden with house made wine. They had their ceremony at the Cloister of St. Francis in downtown Sorrento and the reception just outside of town at Hotel Relais Blu. The ceremony was completed mostly in Italian and translated to English and was a popular tourist attraction for everyone that happened to walk by! We walked the streets of Sorrento before heading to the reception in their tiny rented Italian Fiat. Carla took the back seat to avoid having to hang her beautiful gown out the window! The wedding reception overlooked the island of Capri which at sunset was absolutely breathtaking and ended poolside. We look forward to visiting these two in London next year
We first met Mary-Kate & Matt at their Austin engagement session. They both live Houston now but MK grew-up in a town very close to Geneva, NY where they had their wedding. Belhurst Castle was a perfect venue for their destination wedding with beautiful views of the finger lakes. This area is known as the wine country of upper New York so they decided to kick off the festivities with a wine tasting tour. This made the wedding rehearsal all the more interesting than most. The weather was absolutely gorgeous on the wedding day and the light could not have been any better! Matt’s grandparents are deaf so they incorporated some sign language into the ceremony. It was all very touching and there were not many dry eyes in the crowd. After the ceremony we took MK & Matt down to the docks for some portraits and then the party got started! The music was so good that even the guy in the full neck brace could not resist busting a move!
Hotel El Convento Wedding
We met Taryn & Javi on a rainy day in New York city for their engagement session about 11 months before their wedding day. Although it was supposed to rain on their wedding day as well, it was a perfectly sunny day instead. Taryn & Javi had their ceremony at the San Juan Cathedral and their reception at our favorite San Juan hotel, the El Convento. Their wedding incorporated Catholic, family, and Puerto Rican traditions. At the reception, Taryn’s dad made sure to grab a have a photo with Taryn & a basketball, a family tradition since she was in high school. Taryn had also surprised Javi at the reception with a traditional Pleneros band that kept the party raging in between a band break. The energy was infectious as everyone seemed to know every word to every song! The party continued on after the El Convento and ending up lasting until the wee hours of the morning by the pool of La Concha.
This was our third trip to Puerto Rico for a wedding and it did not disappoint as we were finally able to see a different side of the island we had never seen before, the side with beautiful beaches! Two days after the wedding we went with Taryn & Javi and some of their wedding guests on a catamaran to clear blue waters for snorkeling. Unfortunately, many of us walked away with sunburns.
