We first met Mary-Kate & Matt at their Austin engagement session. They both live Houston now but MK grew-up in a town very close to Geneva, NY where they had their wedding. Belhurst Castle was a perfect venue for their destination wedding with beautiful views of the finger lakes. This area is known as the wine country of upper New York so they decided to kick off the festivities with a wine tasting tour. This made the wedding rehearsal all the more interesting than most. The weather was absolutely gorgeous on the wedding day and the light could not have been any better! Matt’s grandparents are deaf so they incorporated some sign language into the ceremony. It was all very touching and there were not many dry eyes in the crowd. After the ceremony we took MK & Matt down to the docks for some portraits and then the party got started! The music was so good that even the guy in the full neck brace could not resist busting a move!

We shot these engagement photos almost one year before their wedding date in March of 2015 but I believe that the sooner we got to know these two, the better. Maggie & Austen wanted to do go places in Austin that represented them as a couple. We went to two of our favorite cocktail bars in on the east side for them and ended the session over pizza. I look forward to continuously being one-upped by Austen who has some great stories.
Hotel El Convento Wedding
We met Taryn & Javi on a rainy day in New York city for their engagement session about 11 months before their wedding day. Although it was supposed to rain on their wedding day as well, it was a perfectly sunny day instead. Taryn & Javi had their ceremony at the San Juan Cathedral and their reception at our favorite San Juan hotel, the El Convento. Their wedding incorporated Catholic, family, and Puerto Rican traditions. At the reception, Taryn’s dad made sure to grab a have a photo with Taryn & a basketball, a family tradition since she was in high school. Taryn had also surprised Javi at the reception with a traditional Pleneros band that kept the party raging in between a band break. The energy was infectious as everyone seemed to know every word to every song! The party continued on after the El Convento and ending up lasting until the wee hours of the morning by the pool of La Concha.
This was our third trip to Puerto Rico for a wedding and it did not disappoint as we were finally able to see a different side of the island we had never seen before, the side with beautiful beaches! Two days after the wedding we went with Taryn & Javi and some of their wedding guests on a catamaran to clear blue waters for snorkeling. Unfortunately, many of us walked away with sunburns.
Thomas Bennett House Wedding
It is always a treat to see former clients and their families at weddings we shoot. In this case I shot Eric’s sister, Alyson’s, wedding in Austin almost 4 years ago. Alyson and Craig now have two adorable daughters that I got to meet at the wedding. Krissy & Eric are living in Florida at the moment but wanted to have a destination wedding and loved the idea of getting married in a town they had visited before that they loved. Krissy contacted us almost a year ago and reserved her venue, the Thomas Bennett house in Charleston, South Carolina, based on our availability. The house is more of a historic mansion located centrally in downtown Charleston. The rooms were a perfect backdrop to the girls getting ready as well as some bridal portraits before the ceremony and the lawn was beautifully manicured for spring for a tented reception. Their ceremony was at the Johannes Lutheran Church where they did a sword arch exit with all of Eric’s Navy friends. We took portraits at Battery Park so we get a few photos with the ocean water and the gorgeous moss covered trees that South Carolina is known for. There is something so beautiful about the way the light shines in South Carolina, the light is the perfect amount of soft and warm. The reception was full of laughter and dancing which also continued on into their after party. We’re so glad that we could make it out to Charleston for a fun and beautiful destination wedding.
